GUIDE IN COSTA RICA
Donna Porter graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS in Horticulture and worked in the field of Horticulture for over 20 years.
She is the founder and past Executive Director of the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks in Fayetteville, Arkansas and former Executive Director of Heathcote Botanical Gardens in Fort Pierce Florida.
Donna has traveled throughout Central America, exploring gardens and discovering the wonderful world of tropical plants. She traveled Costa Rica eight times before finally relocating to Manuel Antonio on the country’s central Pacific coast in 2003.

To continue following her passion for horticulture and gardens in her newfound home, Donna established Botanical Garden Excursions, S.A., offering quality, customized travel experiences with a niche for specialty horticultural tours. She also develops self-guided botanical trails in and around the Manuel Antonio and the central Pacific coast area and works as a horticultural consultant.

I want to thank you for orchestrating our recent visit to Costa Rica.
As first time visitors we were unsure of how to proceed, what to see
and where to go. You really made the choices easy and removed the stress
from the trip, customizing it so that each of us did what we wanted to
and still had plenty of down time to relax. Your ability as a
translator was invaluable for we gringos. Also, I’m the type who likes the
off-the-beaten-path kind of experiences and you took us to a number of
places in your trusty Toyota we would never have seen on our own.
Being a plant guy, I was especially happy with the arrangements you
made to tour the Wilson Botanical Garden, the vanilla farm and the tours
of different kinds of rain forests and National Parks. It was a real
kick to see all of the philodendrons, begonias, bromeliads, and
spathiphyllums that I grow as houseplants growing in their native haunts. Your
knowledge of horticulture and enthusiasm for the plants and people of Costa
Rica really made the trip a lot of fun.
Again, thanks for putting the trip together for us and helping us have
a very positive first impression of beautiful Costa Rica.
